Project management is now possible anywhere thanks to the explosion in mobile devices. But the last thing you need on a mobile device is something complex and clunky. Just because an iPhone project management app is complex, it does not always mean it’s more useful. There’s nothing worse than fumbling around on your phone to use features and functions you neither need or understand which only ends up stressing you out even more.
There are basically two things you need to think about when it comes to finding the best project management apps for iPhones. The first thing is to make sure that the app helps you to assign and distribute work in the right way. The second and equally important thing is that you can instantly analyze project analytics on the move so you can keep on top of project goals. This can be a tricky to get right – especially on smaller screens such as iPhones – and some iOS project management apps simply don’t give you enough solutions to do both effectively.
Fortunately iPhone project management apps are improving all the time with better user interfaces, simpler, streamlined processing and powerful functions that may in some cases be even better than desktop solutions.
So here are 5 project management apps that get it right when it comes to managing projects on the move on your iOS device. All of these iPhone project management apps are free to download although you’ll need a subscription with the corresponding cloud project management software vendor to use them.
ProWorkflow started out as an internal project management tool, but has been steadily improved with feedback from users.
It has all the project management features you’d expect in an iPhone project management app, such as task management, resource scheduling and analytics and the app features have been streamlined for use on iOS.
ProWorkflow is just as at home managing a large enterprise as it is for small business on desktop. Although the ProWorkflow iPhone app doesn’t render quite as well as it does on the desktop, it’s useful to have access to your projects while you’re on the move.
Wrike takes a bit of a different approach to project management by mixing social collaboration and task management features into one powerful package for iPhone.
Like Proworkflow, Wrike is a one-size-fits-all solution but the standout feature is the real-time collaboration tools which deliver regular updates to users with updates on projects as changes are made.
There’s a useful smart activity stream which makes it easy for team members and managers to see everything that’s happening within the team and you get individual live updates delivered to your iPhone via user profiles. When you add this the powerful analytics tools that are included in Wrike to get an instant visual overview of a project’s progress, it packs a powerful project management punch on the move.
Insightly is better known as a CRM for businesses to capture information about customers, sales leads and tasks, but it can also be used as a project management tool on your iOS device.
Insightly is designed to help you process information fast on your mobile and is easy to use. Everything is controlled by the project overview screen which gives instant access to features such as creating tasks, milestones and pipelines for projects, tracking email correspondence, assigning roles to users and getting automatic email updates.
Insightly allows you to get a sample of its free project management tools with a free trial. The iPhone app is free but after the free trial ends you need to pay for a subscription.
Mavenlink is similar to Wrike in that it puts a big focus on collaboration when it comes to project management on iPhone. Although there’s no actual free iPhone project management app to download, Mavenlink has recently revamped an HTML5 version of the app so it is optimized for iOS.
Mavenlink allows you to share documents and files with others easily and provides a complete cloud-based solution for managing the entire project delivery lifecycle. With it you can complete projects, track time, plan resources, and monitor financial performance, all from the comfort of your iPhone with a user friendly, easy to use interface.
Mavenlink is available as a Team Plan, Professional Plan and Premier Plan and you can try it for free first.
AtTask has now changed its name to Workfront but the iPhone app still goes under the old name. AtTask is a powerful web project management solution that’s integrated with Salesforce. AtTask gives you a holistic view of your projects by integrating internal and external views so you can see things from all angles.
AtTask on desktop features powerful management features such as customizable reports dashboards, time resource management, Helpdesk support issue tracking. Unfortunately, it seems the iPhone app is still someway behind the desktop browser app and it’s definitely due an update to not only rename it Workfront but add all the features that are missing in AtTask. For example, AtTask for iPhone is nowhere near as customizable as Workfront which is one of things that makes the cloud version so good.
