VISAKHAPATNAM: Organisations that execute projects successfully employ effective project management practices as a tool to drive change and attain success, said CII Vizag zone chairman GVL Satya Kumar.
Addressing a one-day programme on ‘Project management: Attaining excellence and project success’, he said the success of a project purely depends on the organization completing the project within the stipulated timeframe and also ensuring that the project cost does not go beyond the budgeted amount.
Here he pointed out that that environmental forces such as competitive, economic, technological, political, legal, demographic, and cultural, create challenges and opportunities for organizations.
But considering the difficult economic times, he said organisations are constantly faced with the challenges of being fiercely competitive as well as changing environments driven by regulatory modification and organisational restructuring, he added.
Pointing out that one of the vital parameters of a sustainable GDP growth of a country is implementation of projects, he said that a country like China has been effectively doing this to improve their GDP growth. Conducting the workshop, Tech Mahindra global head (vertical schools) Hirdesh Singhal spoke about various topics related to effective management of projects such as project programme and management, project portfolio, project management office, skills required for an effective project manager and project management best practices.
He also spoke on the other aspects of project management such as availability of software support that includes risk assessment, scheduling, milestones, cost control, budget management, resource allocation, communication, documentation, and calculating return on investment.
Showcasing a power point presentation, Swati Pant, government relations associate, Project Management Institute, listed out some of the key reasons for project delays and the importance of addressing those issues on a regular basis.
