Google may be the biggest, but it’s not the only, search engine game in town, and with all its ongoing algorithm tweaking, you may be ready to step away from pondering your current befuddling SEO strategy to contemplate how your website is looking to Microsoft’s Bing. If you haven’t already, you can sign up for the Bing Webmaster Tools Account to see how your website looks to Bing, or simply to compare their toolset with Google’s.
The folks at Bing have been busy polling the web master community for insight into ways they can make their toolset better, resulting in the updates as listed in the Bing Webmaster Center Blog:
- More crawl details: You are no longer limited to seeing inbound links that point only to pages returning a 400 header response code. Anything listed under the 300, 400 500 codes, as well as URLs listed under the Robots.txt and Malware headings, display inbound links to the URL.
- URL Normalization suggestions: These will appear inside your account page, but disabled so that you can choose which elements you want to incorporate.
- Enabling DNS verification for domains in your account. You can still add a snippet to your head code or upload a dedicated XML file to the root of your site, but they’ve added a third option that will allow you to place a discrete CNAME record to your DNS to validate a domain.
- Integrated adCenter data: “Viewing Traffic data and looking at the keywords which drove traffic to your site, you’ll notice an Avg CPC column on the left now, with more details in a floating pane to the left of that.”
